My favorite projects this semester was the Photoshop and Illustrator ones. They were my favorite because I had the most experience in Photoshop prior to this project, and I like to play around in Photoshop in my free time anyways. I enjoyed the Illustrator project because when reading over the projects in the beginning of the school year, I came up with a great idea that I loved, and I pushed myself very hard, even watching extra tutorials to complete the vision in my head. I learned critical skills within the Adobe programs by watching tutorials and testing things out on my own. I also gained skills when writing blog posts and explaining the design process helped me organize my thoughts. My major is Digital Technology and Culture with a minor in art, so this class has helped me learn valuable information about potentially being a graphic designer, and overall, I really enjoyed it. Knowing Adobe’s programs and how to use them is prime to a graphic designer and or artist in general. I love the endless possibilities their programs allow you to make. Some skills I wish were available in this class was for other Adobe programs, like Lightroom. I wish I learned Lightroom in this class because I really like photography and it would be useful for the future. For the Photoshop project, I found websites like Unsplash the most useful because they have so many high-quality photos with a free license, which is extremely helpful. Unsplash’s images were easy to work with and sometimes browsing their photos gave me inspiration. Youtube was the most helpful for the Preimere project because it gave good inspiration on video material. My overall takeaway from this class is positive. I dreaded the tutorials because they were extremely frustrating and the most difficult out of all the assignments in a unit. But all the information I learned is very useful, especially considering my career path.

Final Video Story
Music is Small Guitar by Ben Tissot found on https://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/small-guitar
For this final video project, I struggled a lot. It became easier as I went on and learned more in Premiere, however I still struggled. At first, I had no idea what to do, and my first idea was that I could record myself making a piece of art and time lapsing it, however I was not crazy about the idea. My next idea was inspired by the dove commercial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=litXW91UauE. I liked the idea of an advertisement because I found it difficult to create a video about pop art. So, my rough draft, I came up with the idea of making an advertisement for an art show I would host. At first it was just a title page and then showing all my art. In my post I asked for advice from my peers for the peer review, and I went in to see the TA about my idea. My TA said it was a good idea, so I just was depending on my classmates for further advice. In revision, I decided to video record myself talking about the art show instead of title pages explaining what was going on. I got inspiration from one of my classmates I peer reviewed for the talking part as an introduction. Then I showed my art pieces and added background music and transitions. I used a lot of transitions because it thought it was fun rather than the same boring one repeatedly. My idea was that I would make it like a fun slideshow. The ending page told viewers the address, time and I kept it short and simple.
Although Premiere is not as fun as Photoshop and Illustrator, I am still happy with the result and less stressed about the final draft rather than the rough draft. I think there is a good structure to my video, and nothing is too distracting or overwhelming. I think the music is good filler music and the transitions are exciting, so looking at the photos doesn’t get too boring.
Draft Video Story
I decided to create a video pretending it was an advertisement for my art pieces. I was inspired by the Dove advertisement video, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XpaOjMXyJGk&feature=youtu.be that was in the reading. I have been struggling with this project because my talents are much better when it comes to Photoshop and Illustrator rather than creating audio and video. On Tuesday when we had to submit the raw footage, I was thinking about doing a time-lapse of me creating some pop art on photoshop. I could still do that, but since this is a rough draft, I decided to do something different and make it seem like I had an art gallery.
So, I made a couple opening slides sharing basic information, then showed a bunch of my work. I want to add music, transitions, and more slides, but I don’t know if I even want to do this idea for the final draft. I am struggling to come up with ideas for this video project, and it is hard to feel motivated when you barely know how to use the program. I also think the program is very difficult to use because things keep disappearing and freezing. My program is also different from the ones in the tutorials and it is hard to find and use certain effects when you do not know where they are.
Anyways, I hope to watch some more tutorials and hopefully get inspiration over the break. I am also very open to suggestions.

Audio Story: History and Characteristics of Pop Art
For this final product for an audio story, I was not sure what to do at first because since Pop Art is usually made digitally or by hand, I was struggling on how to incorporate something that is visual into something you listen to. So, I started researching characteristics and the history of pop art, and I thought it would be interesting to give a brief story about how pop art came about, what influenced it, the artists that made pop art popular, and the characteristics that are almost always prominent when looking at pieces that are labeled as pop art. So, I was researching, and I was jotting down notes that I wanted to say in my story. Using this website: https://www.invaluable.com/blog/what-is-pop-art/ I was able to find most of what I needed. I had come up with a solid idea, but it seemed a bit bland, so I decided to incorporate the recording I had of my friend that was recording earlier in the week. In her recording, I asked her the simple question of, “What do you think Pop Art is?”. I let her creatively and freely answer that, and I thought it went nicely into my story and added another element to it.
While revising and looking at comments from my peers, they said the content I was stating was interesting, but it felt kind of bland, and I agreed. They also said some parts felt messy and that I could clean it up a bit, so I did that. And instead of adding more story since it was almost at two minutes, I looked up free-licensed audio tracks. I searched for a while before I found something that I felt suited my topic. The audio I picked is called Warm Sea under the fashion filter on this website: https://icons8.com/music/theme–fashion#. The link to Warm Sea is: Music by Savvier from Fugue. I picked this audio because it sounded retro and something that would’ve been popular in music while Pop art was most popular. So, I added it into my story and had it play a little bit in the beginning, fading out and lowering the volume when my voice started. Then I faded it back in when my friend stopped talking and let it play for a bit when the story stopped.
Overall, I was not very excited about this project because my talent lays more in the visuals, however, when revising my project on the history and characteristics of something I love, then adding music that I felt fit perfectly with the theme, I was very happy with the end result.
Audio Draft Story
For this audio project, I decided to make a quick summary/story about the characteristics of Pop Art. I was struggling with what to do for this project because I was not quite sure how to tell a story about pop art, but then I realized telling a brief history of pop art, talking about the characteristics is a story. I looked up characteristics of pop art and found this website: https://www.invaluable.com/blog/what-is-pop-art/. In my story, I talked about when and how pop art came about. It may seem to people for pop art to be pointless, using mundane objects like soup cans, and I would agree but, I believe it is so brilliant and unique. Using Pop culture in art is fantastic, and it shows the transition of modernism in the present world.
Pop art is kind of like rebellion, before pop art was a thing, I do not think anyone would come up with painting a Campbells soup can with bright colors. Not to mention for it to become a whole movement and completely different kind of art. I really love the purpose of pop art was to show that art can stem from anything, I think that is the perfect way to describe pop art.
For my project I decided to go over the main important points about the creation of pop art, main characteristics, and famous artists. And I thought it would be fun to ask someone who doesn’t know much about pop art, and someone that doesn’t have a dictionary definition, what they think pop art is. So, I recorded my friend and she gives a brief overview about what she thinks about it.
Raw Audio Recordings
For my project, I was thinking about doing a story about either my artist story or ask other people what they think pop art is, or embed both together.
Final Draft: Logo Project

For my logo project, I had come up with the idea a couple weeks ago, and I was really excited to get started with Illustrator to make my idea come to life. It was more difficult creating it than I thought it was going to be because of my little experience with Illustrator. When I first started, I used the pen tool and traced over a photo of a pop art woman, then I added a circle using the ellipse tool around her and added ‘Rosettarosegarden’ in text and warped it, so it hung around the circle. I did not know how to add color to certain places in the beginning, so my draft was black and white with the brown hair, looking like a figure-ground logo. When revising, I took my time playing around with the tools in Illustrator to portray what I wanted to make. While playing around, I got familiar with some tools, and it became easier to use. I also watched a bunch of simple Illustrator tutorials for my other class, which helped a lot. When I was stuck, I looked up even more tutorials. When I some-what got the hang of things, I kept in mind suggestions that my peers gave me and started to make changes. I mainly used the pen and curvature tool to create lines and shapes that I could alter the fill and stroke of. I made the pop art woman, (who is supposed to be me), made wavy hair instead of ending abruptly, along with her shoulders. I used the gradient tool with her hair as well, mixing the dark and light brown. I also added a bunch of lines in the hair, using black, darker and lighter brown than the original color to give a sense of texture and incorporate characteristics of pop art. I made the inner circle green (my favorite color), and the stroke pink (my other favorite color), and I matched her lips to the stroke color. I made the color of her shirt a lighter pink so it wouldn’t introduce a whole new color, and it fits well with the overall color-scheme. One big characteristic of pop art is the colors that ‘pop!’, which means colors that grab your eye, and colors that contrast well with each other. The two shades of pink and green mixed with the brown hair and olive skin tone contrasts each other very well and catches someone’s eye. Another characteristic of pop art that I learned in an art camp is the thick black lines kind of outlining everything, which I incorporated in my logo. As I mentioned in my draft, I envisioned my logo printed out as a patch, and one of my peers suggested using a dashed line to get the stitch effect, which I did on the pink stroke.
When making this logo, I took it very seriously and passionately because this is truly what I love. I also hope to have a career one day where I can show off my talents with the skills I learn in the Adobe programs, which is why I am very determined to learn how to use their programs. I have always wanted to successfully create a logo that represents myself and my work, and I am very happy to have done so with this project.
Draft Logo

For this project, I was really excited because I had an idea of what to make for my logo a long time ago. Watching and reading about logos in the required reading, it expanded my idea, and I got even more excited. My research consisted of feminine logos and logos with faces. However, I do not have very much experience in Illustrator, so it is difficult to express my ideas to the fullest. I went back and watched the tutorials, as well as looking up some, yet I still struggled. I started off with this photo and traced over the outline with the pen tool. Here is a link to my main source of inspiration: https://weheartit.com/entry/286872044
I wanted to add color and attempted too, but it made things more confusing and overall frustrating, so I kept to a simple outline, and hopefully when I revise, I will add color. I used the picture of the pop art girl, to represent me as a pop art character, since it is my topic and I am the main artist. Then I added a circle around her, imagining what the logo would look like as a printed-out patch of some sort. Then I added text “Rosettarosegarden” in pretty, cursive font to reinforce my feminine theme, and arched it around the circle. I wanted to use emphasis on the circle shape with the girl inside to keep it simple. I also wanted to go for a fun vibe with the font and how it hangs to the circle. Here is a link to my inspiration in general: https://www.google.com/search?q=pop+art+tumblr+girl&rlz=1C1SQJL_enUS797US797&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwiAqIat4o_lAhX6FTQIHeSzCs0Q_AUIEigB&biw=1666&bih=989
I really like where my logo is heading, and I can’t wait for the final, which hopefully will have improvements, suggestions from my peers, and more color.
Logo Sketch

For my logo, I wanted to make myself as a pop-art woman since I am the artist and it would be my brand. I wanted my name to be cursive and for it to follow along with the circle.
